Rigid ESD packaging holds sensitive components or assemblies in a defined position during storage and transport. Trays, containers and other rigid formats can provide mechanical support alongside the electrical properties required by the handling process.
Material selection should reflect where the package will be used. Conductive or dissipative behavior and shielding are different characteristics, and the required combination depends on the exposure. The internal geometry must also avoid stressing leads, surfaces or mounted components.
Compare dimensions, stacking arrangements and compatibility with automated handling or storage. Reusable packaging needs inspection and cleaning procedures that preserve its intended properties. Part identification and orientation help prevent loading errors when containers move between stations. Where packaging crosses the boundary of an ESD protected area, assess whether the complete enclosure provides the required protection.
