SMT adhesives and underfill materials serve different functions in electronic assembly. Adhesives can hold suitable components in position during selected production steps, while underfill fills the space beneath certain packages to support the connection structure.
Each material must suit the component, PCB and subsequent processing. Viscosity and application behavior influence how adhesive deposits form or how underfill flows beneath a package. Curing conditions and material compatibility also affect the completed assembly.
For dispensing, review deposit size, nozzle access and the required working time. Underfill selection should consider package clearance and the intended flow path. Surface condition and preparation can influence bonding and filling, so trials on representative parts are important. Repair requirements should be considered before choosing a material that will surround or secure the component.
