Automated optical inspection, or AOI, checks visible features of PCB assemblies using cameras and image-processing software. It can inspect component presence, orientation and selected solder joint characteristics, depending on the system and inspection stage.
AOI is commonly placed after component placement or reflow soldering to detect issues before boards move further through production. Two-dimensional and three-dimensional approaches provide different information, and the appropriate technology depends on component geometry and the defects to be assessed. Hidden connections may require additional inspection methods.
Programming quality is central to useful results. Component libraries, lighting and inspection thresholds should reflect real production variation without allowing significant defects to pass. Review stations and stored images help operators investigate flagged locations. Compare coverage, cycle time, board dimensions and data connectivity against the intended line requirements.
At Sinerji, you can find AOI systems for PCB assembly inspection. Our team can help assess optical inspection options for your components, production workflow and quality-control objectives.
