Marking, traceability and manufacturing execution systems connect a product’s identity with its production history. A code on a PCB becomes more useful when it links to material information, process steps and inspection or test results.
Marking equipment applies identifiers such as serial numbers or machine-readable codes. Readers and software capture those identifiers as the product moves through manufacturing. MES provides a wider framework for managing production activity, with capabilities defined by the selected system and integration.
Plan the information flow before choosing individual tools. Code format, marking location and readability need to work with the board and downstream stations. Data ownership, equipment communication and rules for failed or reworked units affect traceability. A clear relationship between the identifier and recorded events helps teams investigate issues without relying on disconnected records.
