Wave Soldering

Wave soldering forms multiple joints as a PCB passes over a controlled wave of molten solder. It is widely used for through-hole assemblies and compatible mixed-technology boards where the underside can be presented to the soldering process.

Flux application and preheating prepare the assembly before solder contact. Conveyor speed, contact conditions and solder alloy influence wetting and the final joint. Board layout and component orientation can affect drainage, so fixture or pallet design may be needed to protect selected areas.

When comparing machines, review board width, thermal requirements and output at the intended recipe. Bath maintenance and control of process residues contribute to stable operation. Inspection results should be used to investigate issues such as bridging or insufficient solder together with the relevant settings, rather than adjusting one parameter without considering the rest of the process.
